Giddy Up Little Cowboys!

David and Erik got these rocking horses for their birthday from their Nana and Lynn. They LOVE them! They have figured out how to push the buttons on their ears to play the song, and they have gotten so good at rocking.

On our rocking horses!

Yay!

Hugs for my horsey. So sweet!

Dismount.

Cheese! Now I have two horses!

It's a Hard Knock Life

We've had a rough few weeks around here. David got an ear infection that required antibiotics. The medicine gave him horrible diaper rash. Then we all got the stomach flu. I've been cleaning up so much puke and poop it is almost (but not quite) funny.

To top it off, Erik got a black eye. We didn't actually see it happen, but we think he slipped and hit his cheek on the window sill. When I went in to see why he was crying, I couldn't find anything wrong with him. He cried for a good 10 minutes, and I probably held him for 20 minutes straight. Unusual for that busy little boy. When he got up, I realized what had happened. Poor baby. It doesn't bother him now, but it looks much worse. All green and blue under his eye. Also, I'm now grateful for all the standard twin questions I usually get when we go out. Those are much better than "how did he get that?!" :(

The Beach/Hollandween/The Moon

We have left 2009 behind us like a burning ship on the high seas somehow probably. We spent part of Christmas vacation visiting my Mom in California so I thought it would be great to introduce Erik and David to the beach. See, Kristi hates the beach, so if ever the boys are to be instilled with the wonder, awe, and love I have for the beach, I must be the lone instiller. (I know right? Hates the beach? Weird.) My Mom took Kristi and my sister Jennifer shopping post-Christmas Eve which created a perfect opportunity to introduce my boys to some natural wonder. My Dad and brother Jacob came along so there was probably male bonding. Jacob had no idea how to find the beach despite his claims to the contrary. He led us a merry chase before we stumbled onto what was probably a private beach. (I deduced it's private nature from the hostile/confused looks the natives gave us as we approached the water.) This beach is in Oxnard which is practically Northern California, hence our sleeve length. Here are the pictures I took or caused to have taken.

Yours Truly with Mine Truly

On the way back we stopped to play in the sand. The boys love dirt indiscriminately.

Especially Erik.

With the new year upon us it is appropriate to discuss some of my Halloween antics with you, gentle readers. Or should I say Hollandween.

This is Professor Holland. He spent part of this semester stridently attempting to interest me in Civil Procedure. This is his characteristic attire: A blazer, something better than a t-shirt and blue jeans. This look is called "power jeans" and I'm not kidding. Ask Google. I asked Professor Holland whether he was aware that he is on the cutting edge of fashion, he claimed he was not aware of any such thing. You and I know the truth though, don't we? On Hollandween my class decided to give homage to professor Holland. I have pictographic evidence.

Power Jeans. All of us.

Oh yeah.

It was pretty hilarious. Professor Holland was giddy with delight right along with the rest of us. He would stop periodically during the lecture, peer out across the power-jeaned masses, and stifle a chuckle. Or maybe a tear.

In sum, here is a picture of the moon.

We love candy!

The boys really enjoyed this holiday season, mostly because of the ridiculous amounts of treats their parents and grandparents gave them. The list of holiday yummies includes root beer, egg nog, pumpkin pie, cheese cake, chocolate chip cookies, homemade caramel, candy canes, pixie stix, chocolate-covered cherries (although, not on purpose), and lots of chicken nuggets.

Erik and David both enjoy candy canes. Always have...

Always will!

This year they also learned the joy of pixie stix...

David having a taste.

It's yummy!

Erik enjoying some pixie stix.

And he approves!

They also got into a box of chocolate covered cherries. I couldn't help myself. I grabbed my camera and took a few photos before I cleaned them up.

David trying not to look too guilty.

Sharing with Erik

He doesn't look too happy, but Erik signed more for 10 minutes straight afterwards. :)

Favorite Things

I thought it would be fun to post some of the boys' favorite things. They are growing up so fast, and it is fun to see what preferences and talents they each have.

David still likes to eat things that aren't food.

Erik does too!

Erik loves his blankie!!! Every time he touches it, he pulls it to his upper lip and starts sucking on his fingers.

David has recently discovered that his tongue is a toy. He likes to stick it out and move it around. It's pretty funny.

Erik is our little book worm. He loves to sit and "read" books, and he definitely has favorites. He'll pull them off the shelf, toddle over to your lap, and sit down to hear a story. What a cutie baby!

David's "cheese smile."

Erik also loves ducks. Duck is probably his favorite word. It there is a picture of a duck in a book, he'll find it, point to it, and say "duck!"

David prefers pigs. The pig he is holding in the picture now has to go to bed with him. He doesn't want to take a nap or go to bed without it.

David's new talent is stacking cups. He's always so proud of himself when he does it. As soon as the top cup is on, he smiles really big and claps for himself. :)

Erik thinks it is more fun to knock towers down. Don't worry though. David will just build it again and clap before Erik gets up from reading his book to come knock the stack over.

We Love Bath Time!

Just a great shot of the boys enjoying bath time.
